As the summer continues we have had some great news awards-wise. Hot on the heels of winning at the International Cider Challenge and the Royal Three Counties Show, our Medium Dry Yarlington Mill bottled cider has won a two-gold-star award at the Great Taste Awards… as did our Medium Sweet Browns bottled cider! Not to be left out, our Medium Dabinett bottled cider won a gold-star award too!

All are absolutely outstanding results in a widely respected competition and we are really proud that we did so well. Here is a selection of the judges’ comments:

Ty Gwyn Cider Medium Dry Yarlington Mill: “Good carbonation and golden hue, with a bright characterful nose full of apples and straw which is rich and juicy.  Well-crafted and a very good example of a single variety cider, traditionally made.”

Ty Gwyn Cider Medium Sweet Browns: “Subtle enticing notes, not overblown, leading to a complex layer of flavours. As welcome as a fluffy pillow! The alcohol is more apparent on the finish. One to sip and enjoy. Following a mouthful of cheese the apples sing through. This cider made us stop in our tracks and have a good think.”  (This comment made us wonder if our Medium Sweet was close to bagging three stars or even a golden fork!)

Ty Gwyn Cider Medium Dabinett: “Nice bright golden colour. Slightly yeasty, strawy, sugar puff nose. Pleasant carbonation. Really nice balance of tannin and sweetness with decent length.”

Getting our show on the road

In other news, we are just back from a five-day marathon appearance at the BBC Countryfile Live Show at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. It was a great show and we did our best to spread the gospel of real 100%-juice craft/artisan cider outside the traditional heartlands of the Three Counties area!
